The reason most people never start with fountain pens isn't the pen. It's everything after the pen. You buy one, and then you find out you also need ink, and a converter, and that some inks will wreck the feed, and that the bottle you liked the look of is the wrong kind. Fill the converter, click the button, write. The Daybreak's nib comes out on a spring and goes back behind an airtight shutter, so there's no cap to set down and lose and no dried nib a week later. The ink is built for the paper you already own, like spiral notebooks, filler paper, or whatever came out of the office printer, so the first thing you write on isn't a disappointment.

One honest note: 55 ml is a lot of ink. It's roughly fifty converter fills, not a sample vial. You're deciding you like navy for a good long while, but you're also not buying ink again this year.

How to fill your Daybreak Click

1. Unscrew the pen to reach the twist converter. It ships already fitted to the front section.
2. Click the nib out. Turn the converter's knob until the piston sits all the way down at the nib end, which pushes the air out.
3. Dip the nib into the bottle until the whole nib, and a little of the section behind it, is under the ink.
4. Turn the knob back slowly to draw ink up. Then turn it a quarter turn forward to release a few drops and an air bubble, and draw up again for a fuller fill.
5. Lift the pen out, wipe the nib and section with a tissue, put the pen back together, and write.

How to clean your Daybreak Click

1. Flush the pen every few weeks, every time you change ink colors, and before it goes in a drawer for more than a month.
2. Unscrew the pen, click the nib out, and dip it in a cup of cool water. Use the converter to draw the water up and push it back out, over and over, until it comes out clear.
3. Expel the last of the water, wrap the nib in a paper towel, and leave the pen apart to dry nib-down overnight.
4. Cool water only. No hot water, alcohol, or solvents.
5. Avoid pigmented, shimmer, and India or carbon inks. They will clog the feed and the shutter, and no amount of flushing fully undoes that.
